Hot Cross Buns – warm, fruity and bready goodness
I felt like getting into the Easter spirit today, so I made Hot Cross Buns! My first attempt ever, and they are soo worth it.
Although you can buy them quite cheaply at Woolies, nothing compares to home-made, and the smell coming out of the oven was divine. I’m going to have a crack at another Eastery treat for this weekend, I’m thinking something small and sweet, chocolaty and eggy shaped….maybe some hot cross bun truffles….. Although these buns were delicious, its probably not the type of thing you can whip up for a Sunday breakfast, unless you have some fancy shmancy kitchen gadget, which I don’t!
I used this Hot Cross Bun recipe from my favourite cooking website (Taste) and altered it slightly to include mixed peel, substituting sultanas instead of currants (didn’t have any).
I used a combination of cinnamon and nutmeg instead of mixed spice (I had allspice but I have a feeling that is an entirely different flavour, more used in savoury dishes??)
The kneading can get a bit tiring, but luckily I can see my tv from my kitchen so I watched a bit of “Say Yes to the Dress” while I was kneading away. I did notice my arms were a bit shaky afterwards, but maybe that’s just a sign that I’m a weakling 🙂
Here is a visual walk-through, and if it takes your fancy, check the recipe out 🙂
A visit to Mitchell Road Design & Antiques Centre
Firstly apologies its been sooooo long since I wrote a blog post. You know how it is, selling and buying a house, running round after a toddler….etc.
I made it over to Mitchell Road Design and Antiques Centre in Alexandria this week, after a silly amount of time has past since I had been to re-stock and chat to the lovelies who work there.
If you haven’t been there, you must! We are planning another visit to pick up some interesting items for the new house – in particular I have my eye on a beautiful cane chair, and a white lamp. To tempt you – here are a couple of snaps from my visit.
If you go and can’t find Sweet Gracie Candles, just ask one of the lovely people who work there and they will direct you – I am in “Emma’s Space”. They are a great idea for Mothers Day!
Enjoy!

Gorgeous vintage teacup candles just added to the online shop!
Happy New Year to you lovelies! Its been way way too long since I did a blog post, my bad.
The lead up to Christmas was quite hectic and now I’ve had a good rest I’m back in the swing of things. I made my first batch of candles for the year this morning, in the gorgeous Pink Peony scent, and made some delightful mini candles in some Royal Doulton egg cups too!
I’ve also got some lovely new fragrances in stock, as well as added a few new pieces to the store. I picked these ones up when I was in Tasmania, I couldn’t resist and I was so glad when they made it back in one piece!
The new fragrances available are:
-Cranberry Marmalade – a Luscious blend of tart cranberries spiced apples and fresh California orange peel.
-French Pear – this variety of pear derives its name from the phrase, Doyenne du Comice, meaning, top of the show,as they are often celebrated as the best pear variety. Originating in France the fragrance is rich juicy and meltingly smooth. An amazing pear fragrance.
-Lavender- An enchanting meadow fringed with springs of lavender
-Pink Peony – A classic floral fragrance comprising pink petals of peony with African violets, yellow jasmine and wild rose
–Uplifting – This highly stimulating blend energises the central nervous system, invigorating and strengthening where there is weakness and exhaustion. Contains essential oils Clary Sage, Aniseed, Lemongrass, Bergamot, Peppermint and Grapefruit
-Australian Bush – a rich floral blend with a true to life aroma, including notes of fresh green grass, sensual floral & green leaf. These are fused with herbal citrus notes of lemon, pine & eucalyptus.
